Editorial & Source Policy
This page describes how records on BlackhawkHub are produced and what standards they are held to.
Answer-first structure
Every reference record opens with a direct answer to the question its title implies, followed by a fact table, then detail. The direct answer is written so that it is correct on its own, without the rest of the page.
Source hierarchy
Claims are checked against sources in this order of preference:
- Standards and registries. IANA registries, RFCs from the RFC Editor, W3C and IETF specifications, NIST publications.
- First-party vendor documentation. Microsoft Learn and Microsoft Support for Windows behaviour and error codes; MDN for web platform semantics; manufacturer specification pages for hardware limits.
- Reputable secondary documentation. Used to confirm common practice, never as the sole basis for a technical claim.
Community forum threads and marketing blogs are not treated as sources. Where a widely repeated claim cannot be traced to a primary source, the record says so rather than repeating it.
Standards versus common practice
Records distinguish between what a standard assigns and what is actually deployed. Port 8080 is registered as http-alt; in practice it hosts proxies, development servers and administration consoles. Both facts are stated, and labelled.
Troubleshooting content
Fixes are ordered from the safest and most reversible to the most invasive. Records state when to stop and back up data before continuing. Records do not recommend deleting registry keys, disabling security features or running third-party "repair" utilities as routine steps.
Security content boundary
Security content is defensive, administrative and educational. Records explain what a port, protocol or process does, how to verify it and how to configure it safely. They do not provide exploitation, credential-theft, malware or evasion instructions.
Process and file names
A process record never claims that a file is malicious because of its name alone. Records explain the expected path, publisher and signature, and describe how to verify them.
Hardware ranges
Temperature and health figures are given as ranges that depend on the component generation, form factor and ambient conditions. Manufacturer limits are cited where published. No single threshold is presented as universally safe.
Tools
Utilities run in the browser. Each tool page states whether input stays on your device. Hash tools label MD5 and SHA-1 as unsuitable for security purposes. Nothing typed into a local tool is transmitted to BlackhawkHub.
Updates
Every record shows an updated date. Records are revised when the underlying standard, vendor documentation or Windows behaviour changes, and when a correction is verified against a primary source.
Authorship
Records are attributed to BlackhawkHub Editorial. BlackhawkHub does not publish invented author biographies, credentials, testimonials or laboratory claims.
